Cookie Policy

The cookies and browser storage CEDAR BUY uses, what each is for, how long it lasts, and how to change your choice.
Your choice
On your first visit a banner asks which optional cookies you allow. Nothing optional is loaded before you answer. Your answer is kept for 180 days, and you can change it at any time:
Cookies the site needs
These cannot be switched off, because the features they support do not work without them.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* |
Keep you signed in and protect account pages (set by WordPress when you sign in). | 14 days, or until you log out |
wordpress_test_cookie |
Checks that your browser accepts cookies before signing in. | Until you close the browser |
cedar_buy_consent |
Remembers your cookie choice so the banner does not ask again. | 180 days |
cedar_buy_guest_interest |
Only while signed out: a random identifier that remembers which product categories you browsed, so suggestions are relevant. It holds no name or email address. | 30 days |
cedar_buy_reset_pw |
Carries a password-reset request from the email link to the reset form. | 15 minutes |
Optional cookies
The banner offers two optional categories, analytics and marketing. The site does not currently use any analytics or marketing service, so allowing them sets no cookies today. Your choice is recorded so that, if such a service is ever added, it is only used with your permission.
Your choice does not change the Amazon links on the site: they remain affiliate links whether or not you allow optional cookies.
Browser storage
The site also keeps small pieces of information in your browser's own storage. They stay in your browser and are not sent to other companies.
- Your light or dark theme choice, and hints you have already dismissed (kept until you clear site data).
- Products you have ticked to compare and products you recently opened (cleared when you close the tab, and never kept longer than 24 hours).
- Products you save while signed out, as Amazon identifiers only.
- A reference to your current Cedar AI conversation, and a note that you have logged out, so other open tabs update.
- The site's own files (styles, scripts, fonts and site images), stored by its service worker so pages load faster and an offline page can be shown. Amazon product images and product information are not stored this way.
Other companies
- Google reCAPTCHA: when switched on, the sign-in and sign-up forms load Google's reCAPTCHA check, which can set Google cookies under Google's privacy policy.
- Sign in with Google: if you choose it, you continue on Google's website, where Google's cookies apply.
- Gravatar: profile pictures load from Gravatar's servers (Automattic), under Gravatar's own privacy policy.
- Amazon: product images load from Amazon's servers, and when you follow a link to Amazon, Amazon's own cookies and privacy notice apply on its site. Nothing you choose here can change cookies on Amazon's website.
What the site does not use
- No analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookies or scripts.
- No social-media embeds that set cookies when a page loads.
- No record of which visitor accepted or declined: only overall totals are counted.
